Aluminum Can Recycling
In March 1987, after local authorization, the Firefighters joined forces with other fire departments and Saint Barnabas Burn Center, Livingston, N.J. to aid child burn victims by recycling aluminum cans. Each aluminum can recycled will raise approximately 2 cents for the "Aluminum Cans for Burned Children" (ACBC) project. All proceeds from the donated cans will go directly to the Saint Barnabas Burn Center to benefit the burned children. In the nineteen years we have been collecting Aluminum Cans, the firefighters of Florham Park have donated over $186,744 to the Burn Center. The Firefighters have constructed a 16' X 24' fenced-in area behind the firehouse at 315 Brooklake Road. We ask all residents to please place their aluminum cans ONLY in a plastic bag, tied at the top, and bring them behind Fire Headquarters at 315 Brooklake Road ANY TIME, DAY OR NIGHT and place them in the fenced area. As our recycler WILL NOT accept glass, tin cans, plastic bottles, paper or cardboard, we ask you to please NOT include these items in your plastic bags. Remember, please, ALUMINUM CANS ONLY. All the funds, from the ACBC project, are used to meet the needs of the children that are not covered by insurance and provide educational materials including a two-story 29 foot FIRE SAFETY HOUSE trailer constructed with a living room, kitchen, bath/bedroom which travels around the State of New Jersey to many schools, giving the children a hands-on experience to teach them about fire and burn safety.
