Campus Fire Watch

Parent Resources

Safety-- Have you thought about it? Have you asked your son’s or daughter’s school, fraternity or sorority important questions such as:

  • What type of fire prevention training is done, and how often?
  • How often are fire drills carried out?
  • What type of training has the residence hall staff received in fire safety? How often do they go through the training, how long is it, and what is covered?
  • Are the rooms inspected on a regular basis for fire hazards? If not, why not?
  • What type of fire alarm system does the building have?
  • Does the fire alarm system notify the Fire Department or Campus Security (not all fire alarms do!)
  • Are there smoke detectors in each and every room? If not WHY not?
  • Are your residence halls sprinklered?
  • If not, WHY not?
  • When will they be?
  • How many fires have occurred on campus last year?
  • Are candles permitted in residence halls? If so, WHY are they?

These are just some of the questions that parents are now asking administrators when they are looking at schools as well as Greek housing for their children.
